Hi David,

Life after Kona Village is going well.  After a month and a half unplanned vacation, I was fortunate enough to be hired at Four Seasons in room service.  It is a big switch for sure, but it still gives me my days free to surf and play.  There are about 15 - 20 of us from The Village that were hired there.  I wish they could have taken more of us.  I know that some of the other employees have been able to find work at the Mauna Kea Beach and the Fairmont Orchid.  Most of the jobs being offered are a far cry from what we had at The Village, and now we are competing with our friends for the same limited number of jobs, which is tough.  Most of the staff are still looking for work.  There have been some loosely organized KV staff BBQ's where several of us have gotten together, and it's really nice to see everyones faces again.  The Save Kona Village facebook page has been a hot topic of discussion at these events, but mostly we just laugh around with each other as always.  I really had the pleasure of working with a wonderful group of people.

I just wanted to thank you and the rest of the Save Kona Village Ohana for the work you are doing to help my friends and fellow employees.  I miss Kona Village more than I ever thought I would.  For me, what made The Village so special was the wonderful people I got to work with, and the wonderful guests I had the pleasure of meeting (the view was pretty nice too).   As important a role as the staff played in making Kona Village what it was though, it was you and the other guests that truly helped make Kona Village what it was.  If you all had demanded more of a conventional hotel experience, you would have gotten it.  But you didn't.  In fact, you demanded the opposite, and that is what made Kona Village such a good place.  The interaction between the guests and employees, and the guests among other guests was truly special.  Thank you for your part in that.

Aloha a hui hou,   Tyson

I have decided that I no longer want to be in the tourism industry. I've done it for 20 years and I desire a completely different challenge. In addition, I know I could never work for another hotel/resort after Kona Village. I believe you could understand why...

I’d love to hear from you!
